On 29 Oct 2025 at ~16:00 UTC, an inadvertent Azure Front Door (AFD) configuration change under Microsoft's control caused elevated latency, timeouts, and errors for customers and Microsoft services (including Front Door, App Service, Entra/AD B2C, Azure SQL, Azure Portal and others). Microsoft has rolled back to the last known good configuration and is gradually recovering by reloading configs and re-routing traffic to healthy nodes; intermittent failures may continue during this controlled scale-up. Customer configuration changes are temporarily blocked to avoid disruption while recovery completes. Microsoft reports strong improvement across regions and is tracking toward full mitigation by ~23:40 UTC on 29 Oct 2025, with further updates to follow. Root cause: unintended configuration change within AFD.
